Privacy policy
What Aetheris Desktop does with your data.
Last updated 3 November 2026 · Applies to the Aetheris Desktop app for Windows and this website. The Aetheris web app has its own policy.
The short version
- Aetheris Desktop runs on your computer and keeps its data there.
- It has no account system, sends no usage analytics and does no AI processing.
- It contacts only two outside services: Open-Meteo for weather, and Google for Calendar and Tasks, and Google only if you connect it.
- Google access is read-only. Aetheris can show your events and tasks but cannot create, change or delete them.
What stays on your computer
Aetheris saves the following in its own data folder on your computer:
- Your settings, widget layout and appearance choices for each scene.
- Notes you write in the Notes panel.
- The weather city you chose and the most recent forecast for it, so the widget can show it while you're offline. Forecasts older than seven days are not shown.
- If you connect Google, a sign-in token that lets Aetheris refresh your access. It is encrypted with Windows' built-in protection for your user account before it is saved.
Your Google Calendar events and Tasks are not saved to disk. They are kept in memory while Aetheris is running and discarded when it closes.
To remove everything, quit Aetheris and delete its data folder (private-data inside the app folder). Forgetting your weather location in Settings removes the saved city and forecast.
What is read on your computer, and stays there
- Music: the title, artist, artwork and playback state of what's playing, as Windows shares it with apps. This is used to show and control playback and is not sent anywhere.
- Wallpaper: your desktop wallpaper image, read to tint and blur the widget backgrounds. It is processed locally and not uploaded.
- Start menu apps: shortcuts from your Start menu, listed in the launcher.
What is sent, and to whom
| Feature | Sent to | What is sent | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weather search | Open-Meteo geocoding | The city name you type | When you search |
| Weather forecast | Open-Meteo forecast | The coordinates of the city you chose | When you choose a city, then about every 30 minutes while the weather widget is visible |
| Google Calendar and Tasks | Requests to read your primary calendar's events and your task lists | Only after you connect Google, while the clock or tasks are shown |
Weather data is provided by Open-Meteo under their terms. Their handling of requests is covered by their own policy.
Google user data
If you connect Google, Aetheris Desktop asks for two read-only permissions:
calendar.events.readonly: to show events from your primary calendar.tasks.readonly: to show your task lists and tasks.
This data is used only to display your calendar and tasks inside the app on your computer. It is not stored on disk, not sent to Aetheris or anyone else, not used for advertising, and not used to train AI models. No person reads it.
Aetheris Desktop's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
You can disconnect at any time in Aetheris under Settings → Connections. That removes the saved token and any fetched data from your computer. To also withdraw the permission on Google's side, remove Aetheris Desktop from your Google Account.
Optional YouTube Music picker
If you install the optional Chrome extension, it lets you search and pick songs in a YouTube Music tab you already have open. The extension talks to Aetheris only through a private connection on your own computer. Aetheris does not sign in to YouTube or receive your YouTube account information.
This website
This site has no accounts, cookies, analytics or advertising. Its fonts and images are served from the site itself, so visiting doesn't contact a font or tracking service. The site's host may keep standard request logs, such as IP address and browser type, for security and operations.
The live preview on the home page runs in your browser and saves nothing. Its clock reads your device's time and time zone without sending them anywhere. If you search for a city in the preview, your browser sends the city name to Open-Meteo's geocoding service, then the chosen place's coordinates to Open-Meteo's forecast service, in the same way the app does. Open-Meteo also receives your IP address and browser type, as any website you visit would. Each request is listed on the page as it happens. Nothing is fetched until you search.
If you choose or drop an image to try as a wallpaper, the page reads it in your browser to show it behind the widgets and pick their ink. It isn't uploaded or saved, and it's gone when you close the page.
Children and families
Aetheris Desktop is not directed at children under 13, or the minimum age for online services in your country, and doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone.
For parents: there are no accounts, ads, chat or contact with other people, and nothing about the person using it is collected or sent to us. The only outside services are Open-Meteo for weather and an optional, read-only Google Calendar and Tasks connection, which needs a Google account and can be disconnected at any time in Settings.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
